What is climbing?

Such a sport, like climbing, appeared relatively recently. Climbing was originally considered a kind of mountaineering, but in the mid-50s it was perceived as an independent sport. Over the past half a century since, it has gained many admirers in different parts of the world.

What is the difference between climbing and mountaineering?
– the person who is engaged in rock-climbing, is relieved of the need to carry heavy equipment with him – all the equipment of a rock-climber can fit in a small backpack.

– the climber has the opportunity to start climbing as soon as he gets to the climbing camp (maximum half an hour), while climbers sometimes spend several days to reach the desired point.

– the climber has to make the transitions in bad weather, deal with rockfalls and avalanches, suffer from oxygen deficiency, while climbing does not put people in such conditions.

Climbing routes can have different heights: from 10 to 80 m. When preparing a future route, the area is thoroughly cleaned of stones, after which bolts are placed in the rock, each of which can withstand a weight of approximately 2 tons. The site is repeatedly checked to ensure maximum safety for climbers and to avoid accidents.

The most suitable temperature for climbing is 15-20 ° C. If the air temperature is not comfortable or adverse weather conditions are observed, climbers use so-called climbing walls for training. These artificial structures are created in order to provide athletes with ideal conditions for training: a comfortable temperature is maintained here, various elements of the relief of the rocks are recreated, additional elements are used, such as strength training equipment and soft mats, saunas and cafes.

In preparing the tracks on the climbing walls, different types of hooks are used, which allows you to create sections for passing that differ in their level of difficulty. Ready tracks are checked by three or four professionals, after which the level of complexity of a particular area is determined.

The degree of difficulty of the track allows an objective assessment of the level of training of an athlete.
